EVA Air is interesting because it is mainly a privately owned airline. Due to their portfolio of willing investors, they have not had to go public to stay in business. Using guaranteed funds from private investors, they had a record-breaking start using long-haul aircraft. With flights, both international and domestic, that serve Asia, the United States, and parts of Europe, EVA is a well-rounded airline. Cargo hauling is the latest addition to this airline's international regimen of flights. Now that you know little about EVA, let's look back over the years to see what they have actually done. Wanting the first airline in Taiwan, that was non-publicly held, Evergreen Marine Corporation began an airline in 1988, which later changed its name to EVA. The decision to start a new airline happened because the restrictions on air transportation were lowered by the government. Business people who are financially set, usually are ready to take advantage of any natural occurring opportunity. Following standards set by the government is all you can ask of business people. The national leaders of Taiwan wanted any airline that was created, to be positioned under different measures in order to preserve the stability.

Adding 22 international destinations to their everyday flights allowed EVA to invest in long-distance airplanes that were capable of making the journey. By this time they were flying in excess of three million passengers per year. They have a great safety record which is one of the primary motivations for people to fly with this company. Of course that was made more dramatic when compared to other airlines in their region who were their direct competition. Once they were able to secure enough certifications to go into other regions, they began to grow even faster.

Like every other airlines, the rising fuel costs starting in 2007 caused horrible financial problems for EVA. The company incurred heavy losses due to this even though all airlines were trying to deal with this scenario, as well. The airline industry worldwide is in a precarious position when it comes to fuel prices, which cause profits or losses. To keep from losing any more money, sometimes drastic measures need to be taken in order to survive, and that is what EVA did. Any type of cost reduction procedures, will cut out some jobs, but that is what it takes to save a company, and this is what it took for EVA to survive.

In Taiwan, domestic flights are basically monopolized by EVA. One unique quality and achievement for the airlines is the excellent safety record they have maintained since they came into being. More and more passengers are choosing to fly with this airline which may be because of its safety record. Once they were able to reestablish their profit margin, they reinstated many of the destinations they had canceled.
